With a Passion for Outdoor Life

Being outdoors and having an active lifestyle is an important part of Ingrid Leirvik's (22) life. When she discovered the opportunity to combine this with her care for others, there was no doubt about which career path she would choose – She would become a kindergarten teacher.

It had to be Trondheim
– The best part about working in a kindergarten is seeing the joy you spread around you. Knowing that I am part of a process that helps children grow and develop is an enormous motivation for me.
Ingrid Leirvik from Leirfjord on the Helgeland coast is one of the students at DMMH who wants to inspire others to apply for the kindergarten teacher education.
– The reason I chose the nature and outdoor life line at Queen Maud University College is because I really enjoy being outside.
– At the same time, studying in Trondheim was a big plus for me because it is a city of suitable size that is perfect for those of us who want to be in nature.
Learning in Nature
As a student in her third and final year, she has experienced many exciting trips and experiences. Among other things, the students have participated in several three-day trips in the mountains.
– This has not only created a unique class environment but also a better understanding of how to be good role models for children outdoors and use nature as an educational tool.

– Not many know that it is a leadership education

Ingrid emphasizes the importance of being proud of the career path, as many do not reflect on the importance of kindergarten teachers. Not many know that it is a profession and leadership education.

– The profession gives me the tools I need to be a good caregiver. As a kindergarten teacher, you have the opportunity to influence the lives of children and their families in a meaningful way. No one knows how to take care of children in the best possible way without learning it first, says Ingrid.

– The advice I would give others is just to do it.

Through teaching about communication, leadership, and cooperation, students not only learn about tools that help them in their careers but also on a personal level. Ingrid is convinced that studying to become a kindergarten teacher will give her good qualities that are useful in life.

– I wasn't very outgoing when I started the education, but along the way, you are strengthened to become more outgoing. As a kindergarten teacher, it is also important to be responsible and caring. Not only for the children but also around colleagues. It is important to guide each other to create an environment that supports the best for children.

She believes that if you have a passion for working with children and want to make a difference in society, then this is a career that can give a lot back.
