Artificial Intelligent systems perform actions, physically or digitally, based on interpretation and treatment of structured or unstructured data, with a purpose to achieve a given goal. Certain AI - systems are also able to adapt themselves through analysing how earlier actions have influenced surroundings and environment.
«Artificial Intelligence – AI» is artificial intelligence and abbreviated as AI
«Prompt» is an instruction that generates a "response" - a result
Advice concerning use of AI
- Large language models are generative. The quality of the content varies greatly. It is therefore of utmost importance to ensure the quality of the results one gets from the model. Examples of poor results include generation of non-existing sources and degradation of language
- Student work is expected to be produced by students themselves and be an independent piece of work.
- Even when one use AI as a helping tool, it is important to refer to original sources.
- Be observant while using AI with a personal user. Over time the model will try to change itself to fit the user's preferences and way of thinking. This algorithmic behaviour can lead to an echo-chamber of its own.
- When using AI for grammar check it is required that the description of the AI usage comes before the reference list. On general basis it is not advised to use AI to grammar check, as it often degrades the language and uses concepts in a very general manner.
Guidelines concerning use of AI
- The student alone is responsible for the results that the AI - model generates, including consequences of forementioned AI - tools.
- Do not use sensitive data within AI - models (i.e. data that can be used to identify persons, audio recordings, pictures, video, personally sensitive data, narrations from practice etc.). When using AI for transcription, please use the service provided by Nettskjema.
- AI - tools can be used for learning e.g. brainstorming, suggestions for topics, dispositions, suggestions, and translation of text.
- Please see Kildekompasset for examples on how to refer to AI (APA 7)
- Text, tables and figures that are generated generated by AI, must be marked and properly cited.
